Healing
Curated by Kitana
dedicated to the inner child
Healing may take many forms and it is a different process for each story that we hold within ourselves. It can be painful, joyful, and sad. The theme on healing was focused on the inner child, that can sometimes be forgotten but shown through many aspects of our lives. We sometimes had to mature and grow up faster than our age to adapt to certain circumstances because of the impact of immigration policies where families and communities have been separated. Leaving the inner child forgotten in the past.
Kitana decided to present her inner child, along with the inner child of different people in her life. The collage aspect of the panel was to demonstrate a playful and fun environment. The fabrics that surround the collages included patch work and the idea that we are always trying to patch up and fixing things to create a whole. This is one representation of someone’s inner child that is trying to heal from the division of the border and is acknowledging their yearning for home in Mexico while at the same time accepting their story wherever they go.
To advocate for your inner child is to celebrate who you are. It is your story.
